Corflu
Silver Opening Ceremonies
time:33:32
Joyce and Arnie Katz welcome the attendees
of Corflu SIlver to the 25th Fanzine Fan Worldcon.
As is traditional for the Corflu
opening ceremony, a brief bit of humorous theatrics precedes Chairperson
Joyce Katz's welcoming speech, the choosing of the Corflu Silver Guest
of Honor and a live perfomance of 'The Goin' To Corflu Blues' by Bill Mills,
with harmonica accompaniment by Len Bailes. This is followed by duets by
Teresa Cochran Taylor and Bill Mills, a couple of fanzine filk songs by
Nic Farey (sadly Nic had no mic on the first number "Werewolves of Fandom"
and his vocal is nearly inaudible, but he's on mic for his second number)
and a one-of-a-kind impromptu perfomance by 90 year old Art Widner of a
blues song of his own composition and what he claims is the first filk
song ever written (by Jack Speer) "What a Mighty Fortress Is Our APA". |

The
Science Fiction Radio Show - from Odessa College - circa

| TVoF
has recieved these few rare tapes of episodes from this series of shows
produced under the auspices of Odessa College and The Permean Basin Science
Fiction Association and ultimately aired on KOCV FM. There is audible hiss
suggesting that these may have been recorded 'off the air' as the program
was broadcast. My info on the show and it's hosts/producers is skimpy at
best. Darryl Lane, David Carson, David Cruz and Keith Johnson are variously
credited for participating in discussions and conducting interviews of
science fiction notables. Flawed though the audio may be, they are wonderfully
historic and informative, and well worth the listen. |

S. Aho
“Long” John Nebel ruled
the overnight airwaves on New York station WOR from the mid-1950s to the
early ’60s.
“The Party Line,”
usually featured a revolving guest “panel” of scholars, commentators, writers
and anyone Nebel found
interesting. Frequent guests
included Arthur C. Clarke, James Moseley and The Amazing Randi. The program
ran five and a half hours each weekday, plus wekends (for a total of 37.5
hours per week), but contained lengthy commercials and "coffee breaks"
in which segments and portions of previous programs were repeated.
This
audio is not the complete five and a half hour program. Breaks and commercials
have been removed.
